A new primitive for formulation.

Not a better additive. A new physical layer that separates containment from release.

Every formulation is judged on four things: performance, safety, experience, and cost. Chemistry trades them against each other. Fix one and you strain another. Soliqaire introduces a structural layer that holds each ingredient in its own place and releases it on a defined cue, so those four stop fighting each other.

02 · The Problem

Formulation is one coupled system.

Every knob you turn moves three others.

A conventional formulation forces incompatible ingredients into a single mixture, then adds more chemistry to manage the fallout: emulsifiers, dispersants, solvents, stabilizers, preservatives, fixatives, encapsulants. Push performance and you often raise cost or strain safety. Improve the sensory experience and you can shorten stability. The variables are wired together, so progress becomes a game of trade-offs. This is not a failure of any one formulator. It is the limit of building everything inside one shared phase.

03 · The Primitive

Separate containment from release.

One substrate turns a compromise into three independent settings.

Soliqaire is an open, mesoporous biopolymer matrix with structured containment sites. Payloads sit held inside that structure, protected from each other and from their environment, until a cue releases them. Containment and release stop being the same moment, and that gives the formulator three variables that used to be locked together.

01 · Contain

What is contained

Compatible with a broad range of payloads: fragrance oils, cosmetic oils, mineral UV filters, and inorganic pigments. The structure holds the ingredient; it does not react with it.

02 · Dwell

How long it stays

Dwell is a property of the solid state, not a chemical stability countdown, and is designed to be tunable.

03 · Trigger

What triggers release

A selectable cue. Mechanical and electromechanical dosing today, with heat and moisture triggered release in development.

04 · First Proof

Fragrance is the proof.

Solid-State Liquid and the SDU, validated and productized, launching with The Estée Lauder Companies.

The first commercial expression is Solid-State Liquid: fragrance oil held inside a bio-based solid host, stable at rest, with evaporation suppressed until release and no heat required. It releases through the SDU, the Soliqaire Driver Unit, an electromechanical dose-on-demand scent system with no heat, no flame, and no aerosol. Scent becomes a programmable event: a precise dose, when you want it.

This is not a lab result. It ships. Soliqaire launches with The Estée Lauder Companies across their top global brands, rolling out globally across 25 or more countries between November 2026 and March 2027.

05 · The Beauty Wave

Beauty is the next wave.

Micro-Soliqaire: the same primitive, resolved into porous micro-particles you can formulate with.

Micro-Soliqaire brings Soliqaire down to micron scale as porous biopolymer particles that keep their open structure intact, so the containment architecture survives at the scale a cosmetic chemist works in. Each particle behaves like a nesting doll: it carries its own protected payload into the formula, then releases it in place.

Mineral sunscreen, without the tradeoff

UV filters held apart and deposited already separated, engineered for even coverage, reduced white cast, and a lighter feel, with less of the dispersant load mineral formulas usually carry.

Color that holds

Pigment locked at its dispersed state, so color deposits evenly and holds. For inorganic and effect pigments.

Actives that arrive intact

Incompatible actives designed to stay physically separated until use, then released on cue.

06 · Why It Compounds

A primitive is a thing you build on.

Why this could become the layer the next generation of products is built on.

Compute did not advance one chip at a time. It got new primitives. Parallel silicon and fast memory became the foundation everything else was rebuilt on, and from there the gains compounded. Formulation has never had that kind of layer. It still couples performance, safety, experience, and cost inside a single phase, so every advance is paid for somewhere else.

Soliqaire is a candidate for that missing layer. Because it decouples the variables that were always wired together, each new payload, each new trigger, and each new category is designed to build on the same substrate rather than start from zero. Improvements are intended to accumulate instead of cancel out. That is the trajectory: prove it in fragrance, extend it through beauty, and carry the architecture into categories with the same underlying problem. A layer a category can build on is a layer we believe category leaders will come to need.

Chemistry mixes ingredients. A primitive gives you a place to put them.

07 · Why Now · The Regulatory Tailwind

Regulation is removing the alternatives.

The restrictions fall on the delivery mechanism, not the scent. Most formats cannot reformulate their way out.

Between 2023 and 2029, the European Union has enacted a convergent wave of rules that restrict the delivery formats the fragrance and beauty industries were built on. REACH Regulation (EU) 2023/2055 restricts intentionally added synthetic polymer microparticles, the microplastic capsules used for controlled release, on a set schedule. Formaldehyde limits, allergen transparency, new hazard classifications, aerosol and propellant limits, and the General Product Safety Regulation tighten the same window from every other direction.

The important part is structural. These restrictions fall on the physics of delivery: combustion, aerosol droplets, synthetic polymer carriers, solvent wicking. A format whose mechanism produces a restricted output cannot comply by swapping one ingredient. It has to change how it delivers. That is a problem legacy formats cannot reformulate around.

Soliqaire is compliant by architecture, not by patch. It is bio-based and biodegradable, releases without combustion, heat, aerosol, or synthetic carriers, and meets the biodegradation criteria in Appendix 15 of the very regulation restricting the incumbents. One material can satisfy the whole set of rules at once. When a market is forced to re-standardize, the architecture that defines the compliant alternative becomes the one everyone builds on. That is how a better material becomes a required one.
